Sounds of Concord
Barbershop Chorus
Entertaining Boston area audiences in four-part harmony for over 30 years!
Who We Are…
The Sounds of Concord, entertaining audiences for over 30 years, is one of New England’s top-ranked male vocal ensembles. Our singing is in the barbershop style, that original American musical form combining four-part close harmony with rich melodic sound and lots of emotion. The repertoire includes ballads sung from the heart as well as toe-tappers and swing melodies that instantly put a smile on your face. And often a performance is punctuated by choreography, so we’re not just standing on risers reading sheet music!

The Sounds of Concord (or simply “SOC”) performs at civic and private functions all around the Boston area. We’ve done anniversaries, birthdays and block parties, larger-scale performances at local business, town and church events, and even larger ones at industry conventions. Our Christmas caroling and special Valentine's Day Quartets are seasonal specialties. SOC also entertains senior citizens and hospital patients at facilities around the local area.

SOC is a chapter of the national barbershop singing society, SPEBSQSA, Inc. Our members come from all walks of life, but along with 31,000 other barbershoppers, they share a passion for fellowship, making good music together and entertaining our audiences. SOC rehearses every Thursday evening at 7:30 at the Parish Center of Saint Michael in Bedford, MA, and guests are always welcome (see our Rehearsals Page
).
In addition to our many performances, SOC regularly competes against other barbershop choruses in the Society. We are currently one of five Division champions in the Northeastern District of SPEBSQSA, and have competed eight times at the International level after winning first place honors at the District contest.

SOC is a member of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, Concord Chamber of Commerce, WERS Radio (Emerson College), and CASA, the Contemporary Acappella Music Association.

How We Perform…

The Sounds of Concord is a versatile group and can accommodate a variety of performance requests:
Size: A chorus of 30 to 40 men is standard, but we can also provide smaller groups such as quartets
Format: SOC typically sings from a stage setting on risers, though sometimes we stroll in groups and sing for small groups of guests
Performance Length: A set can range from 25 to 50 minutes, and can be broken up into several sets if needed.
Audience Participation: Sure! If it’s appropriate, we host sing-alongs with familiar old tunes, or teach simple harmonies, all integrated into the overall performance.
