The Sounds of Concord, entertaining audiences for over 35 years, is one of New England's top-ranked
male vocal ensembles. Our singing is primarily in the barbershop style, that original American
musical form combining four-part close harmony with rich melodic sound and lots of emotion. The
repertoire includes ballads sung from the heart as well as toe-tappers and swing melodies that
instantly put a smile on your face. Our songs range from traditional barbershop to tunes from
stage and screen, gospel songs and spirituals, folk tunes, and patriotic songs. And our performances
are usually punctuated by choreography, so you're not just seeing a bunch of guys standing on risers
reading sheet music!
An important part of our Mission is Youth Outreach, and each year we introduce deserving high school
youth to our unique hobby by sponsoring the one day Metrowest Youth Harmony Festival and, along with
other barbershop groups in the area, the three day Harmony Explosion Camp Northeast.
The Sounds of Concord (or simply 'SOC') performs at civic and private functions all around the
Boston area. We've sung at anniversaries, birthdays and block parties, larger scale events such as
local business, town and church functions, and even big industry conventions. Our Christmas
caroling, special Singing Valentines and Annual Show are seasonal specialties. SOC also entertains senior citizens and hospital patients at facilities around the area.
SOC is a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, (formerly known as SPEBSQSA, Inc.) Our members
come from all walks of life, but along with over 28,000 other barbershoppers, they share a passion
for fellowship, making good music together and entertaining audiences. SOC rehearses every Thursday
evening at 7:30 at Temple Emunah in Lexington, Mass., and guests are always
welcome (see our Rehearsals page for more information).
In addition to our many performances, SOC regularly competes against other barbershop choruses at
fun local and regional conventions.
We have competed eight times at the International level after winning first place
honors at the District contest.
SOC is a also member of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Concord Chamber of
Commerce, the Bedford Chamber of Commerce, the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, WERS Radio (Emerson
College), the Greater Boston Choral Consortium, and CASA, the Contemporary A Cappella Society.
